Help Chocolatey, Open Source and Earn That T-Shirt with Hacktoberfest 2021!

It's that time of year again. It's October. And that means it's also Hacktoberfest!

Chocolatey is once again joining in this year and allowing our fantastic community to keep up the frankly awesome work on our open source projects by submitting those pull requests! Introduced last year, Digital Ocean are again offering an exclusive t-shirt or to have a tree planted in your name.

Chocolatey Hacktoberfest Repositories

This year we have added even more repositories for you to cut your Hacktoberfest teeth on. You can find 24 of our open source repositories available this year:

• 13 repositories in the Chocolatey GitHub Organization, and
• 11 repositories in the Chocolatey Community GitHub Organization.

How Do I Get Involved?

That's easy!

Many repositories have a CONTRIBUTING.md document that provides details on how to contribute to the repository. If one is not available, then follow the steps below:

1. Raise an issue in the Issues tab of the repository. This allows your bug / feature / enhancement to be discussed.
2. If, after discussion, you get agreement for your bug / feature / enhancement, then raise a Pull Request.
3. Your Pull Request will be reviewed, discussed and merged!

Our Senior Software Developer, Gary Ewan Park, has created a short playlist of videos to help walk you through contributing to our docs repository. While it is focused on that repository, it is knowledge that you can easily apply to other repositories too! Digital Ocean have also provided resources on how to create your first pull request as well as video to walk you through it.

Hacktoberfest is a great way to brush up on your development skills and help out the open source community at the same time. At the time of this writing, there are 139 events being hosted all over the world including an event hosted by our very own Technical Engineering Manager, Paul Broadwith with our Senior Software Engineer, Gary Ewan Park, as a speaker!

So get those pull requests in, brush up on your developer skills and help the open source community thrive!
